Agility Band: early stepping patterns

Agility bands can be used to add progressive overload during exercises.

Here US college baller Natalia is demonstrating drills that are focussing on lower limb strength and trunk control.

As the agility band stretches the resistance rapidly increased so ensure to stay within a distance that you can control, particularly when starting the return phase.

If used during team warm ups the band can be anchored around a (simliar sized) team mate. Alternatively loop the band around a strong hand rail or squat rack.

The external force of the band is also a way to introduce pertubation and controlled contact drills. Agility bands can be incorporated to rehabilitation for ankle, knee and lower limb injuries.

Stepping in the various directions will help target multiple muscle groups and train body positions that are important to control on court. Be sure to get those hands up and active!

Strength endurance will be emphasised by performing the exercise SLOWLY

You will certainly feel the burn after a few reps.

If you have had a recent injury or surgery please consult a health professional prior to attempting these exercises. A Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist will be able to help diagnose your injury, tailor the rehabilitation and ensure it is safe to introduce more challenging drills.
