Hurdle Unders and Overs

 

Hip mobility is crucial for basketballers, allowing players to sit into their stance, and change direction with a low centre of gravity.

Low back pain is also common in professional players, who squeeze their tall frame into bus, car and plane seats. Maintaining hip mobility is often a key in helping to reduce the loads on the lumbar spine.

Here is a quick hip mobility warm up to perform prior to court and gym sessions.

The unders can be performed under a dowel stick, or even a team mates hand. The Overs can be performed over a bench or chair seat at the court. Alternatively perform the “Open the Gate” movement without any equipment.

Perform 8 -12 repetitions of each movement.
